Two titans of the music world will reunite for a charmed evening duo performance at ArtLitLab in Madison.
Internationally acclaimed steel pannist Andy Narell is known for improvisational fluency on the steel pan, soaring compositions, and for being the first foreigner to compose for Panorama, the annual steel band competition in Trinidad and Tobago where the steel pan originated. He appears on countless recordings as a both a bandleader and sideman, and is among the best-known steel pannists in the world today. Originally from Queens, New York, Mr. Narell today splits his time between the Caribbean island of St. Lucia and Paris when not touring and traveling.
Ben Sidran is one of Madison's best-known, accoladed, and beloved musicians, having made a name for himself far beyond Wisconsin while remaining rooted in his adopted home. Born in Chicago, Mr. Sidran found his early breaks as a young man in the American rock scene, most notably with the Steve Miller Band. Later, after returning to Madison, he became dedicated to the pursuit of jazz as a performer, educator, radio broadcaster, writer, producer, and composer. His 1992 book Talking Jazz remains one of the most well-known and important documentations of oral jazz history that exists.
The paths of these two musical giants have crossed before over the course of their long and successful careers, including when Mr. Narell appeared on Mr. Sidran's seminal album of liturgical and traditional Jewish songs Life's a Lesson.
Only the artists know what music will arise upon their rare reunion here in Madison. Space and available tickets will be limited. Reserving advanced tickets is highly recommended.
