JACKIE O, A 90-Minute "Popera"
The College of Marin Performing Arts Department will present the West Coast Premiere of the 90-minute chamber opera JACKIE O composed by Michael Daugherty to a libretto by Wayne Koestenbaum in the Fine Arts theatre in Kentfield. Performances will be on February 28, March 6 and 13 at 7:30 pm and on March 8 and 15 at 2 pm. James Dunn will direct and musical direction will be by Paul Smith with choreography by Sandra Tanner.
JACKIE O is a celebration of life in the late sixties and America's love affair with our former first lady as she is courted and eventually won by shipping magnate Aristotle Onassis. The music ranges from classic operatic to the Las Vegas Rat Pack sound to blues to Doris Day to exotic and mournful and the settings vary from a happening in Andy Warhols New York studio to Onassis private Yacht Christina and the island of Skorpios in Greece. Other characters depicted include Maria Callas, Liz Taylor. Grace Kelly, Andy Warhol and an offstage JFK.
JACKIE O will feature guest artists Natasha Leland (Jackie Kennedy Onassis) Randall Nazarian (Aristotle Onassis),
Valentina Osinski (Maria Callas), Susan Zelinsky(Grace Kelly),and Linda Gaudiani (Liz Taylor).
