SCOTT CAPURRO GOES DEEPER
The Marsh is pleased to present comic Scott Capurro in his new show, SCOTT CAPURRO GOES DEEPER. Leave it to London-based Capurro to ask the tough questions--the ones everyone ponders but never brings up, not even at drunken dinner parties, and especially not on comedy stages. Until now.
Having recently been booed in Brighton, fired in Sheffield, and asked to tone it down at the Frog and Bucket in Manchester, he wonders what on earth the world of "alternative" comedy is coming to. Since when do middle classes, he asks, who already decide what we watch, eat, and listen to, decide what jokes we tell? With Capurro, the action never stops, no matter how many audience members beg for a merciful end. As the San Francisco Bay Guardian says: "He could start a fight in an empty room."
The show is a series of sketches during which Capurro asks, then answers, a number of uncomfortable questions in the form of a comedic monologue, which, chances are, will morph into a rant including other characters and scenes. The sketches are eventually woven together and end with a (fingers crossed) non-banal conclusion.
Scott Capurro was reared in Daly City. At age 3, he swam the English Channel and since 1993 has told unsavory jokes in every English speaking country. Described by San Francisco Weekly as "stand-up in the very best possible sense--deadpan, ever-alert and hilarious," Scott has appeared in "Mrs. Doubtfire," where, effortlessly, he played a homosexual, and "Phantom Menace," where, breathlessly, he wore rubber.
