STEVE BUDD --------------------------------- "What They Said About Sex."
Why does sex matter so much? And does it really have to be so complicated? Steve
feels weird, and tortured, and clueless in bed and like the latest bloomer of all time.
Maybe a sexually active 80-year-old woman can shed some light. Or a trans man. Or a
gay man who didn't lose his virginity until he was 26. Or a polyamorous woman who's
also a tantric sex practitioner. Surely they know something that Steve doesn't. Right?
TESSIE CHUA --------------------------------- "It Ain't Studio 54"
It's December 1978 the first night of "The New Wave Vaudeville Show" in the East
Village. This is the first comedy skit I've written and my first time performing in public.
The place is packed. There are huge spot lights. Is what I wrote funny? Are people going
to think I'm funny? I'm about to find out.
MARION LOVINGER --------------------------------- "I wear lipstick when I go to the store. Under my mask"
July 10th 2020 could have been for Marion a day of hope and joy. But it started like an
episode of Mission Impossible. Marion had a few minutes to register for an activity
that would change her life but the computer would not let her. Screaming at the screen
did not help. Everyone else seemed to succeed and her path to happiness was vanishing
under her eyes. Once again, those Covid days were bringing frustration and despair.
Thank God, her surgeon was there to help with that.
BETH MCLAUGHLIN --------------------------------- "A Simple Ask"
Sometimes, in the dark, things get confused. And sometimes sentence structure
doesn't work like you think it does. You think one would get used to things. Like meeting
strangers, wearing bracelets, trusting friends. But, I swear, life can still surprise you.
Death might, too.
