The VORTEX's 25th Birthday Gala
Join VORTEX artists and audiences in celebrating VORTEX's 25th Birthday Gala on January 10-11, 2014. VORTEX is Austin's oldest alternative ensemble theatre company.
25 years ago, in January of 1989, VORTEX produced its first show, The Angels are Waiting, at Mexic-Arte Museum in downtown Austin. Two venues, tens of thousands of artists and audiences, hundreds of opening nights and strikes, more than 100 B. Iden Payne Awards, 23 City of Austin Contracts and Texas Commission on the Arts Grants, 4 National Endowment for the Arts grants, dozens of weddings, births, deaths, and 25 revolutions around the Sun later, we are celebrating with a 2-night Birthday Gala. Join us for one hour or all 14 hours! There may never be another party like this one, so be sure to stop by.
We are especially excited about the photo and video montages showing the wide range of our 25-year history. Many of these photos have never been seen beforespectacular production photos from Bonnie Cullum's slides from 1989-2008 when we went digital. Most of the videos have been recently transferred from VHS and while we will be slowly building an online archive, this is your first opportunity to see the arch of our work.
