David Lindsay-Abaire's "Good People" won the New York Drama Critics Award for Best Play in 2011. Set in the playwright's own home town in South Bostonlocally called Southiea rough, urban, working-class neighborhood, the play is hilarious and sad and tender. It introduces us to a single mom who has spent her whole, difficult life in Southie, raising a disabled daughter, depending upon the good will of neighbors for childcare so she can work as a cashier in the local Dollar Store. When she loses that job, she desperately tries to re-connect with an old flame and worm her way back into his life, in whatever way she can. The story questions why some residents thrive while most struggle to merely survive, and how much chance and luck have to do with it. The playwright won a Pulitzer Prize in 2007 for his play "Rabbit Hole," a family drama.
Cast includes: Natalie Cruz, Brandon Larson, Vicki Milach, Gina Scarda, Judith Anderson, and Tim Thieke.
