Five years ago, director Alex Gibney set out to make a documentary about the miraculous, superhuman comeback of Lance Armstrong to competitive cycling after his struggle with cancer and reemergence from retirement.
But by the time the film was complete, in 2013, Armstrong had admitted to using performance-enhancing drugs in the shadow of federal criminal investigations by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency and the International Cycling Union. Instead a look into a miraculous human, The Armstrong Lie chronicles the rewriting of history surrounding one iconic manand gives us a glimpse into unprecedented scandal. During the filming of the movie, Gibney found himself with one-of-a-kind access and an insider's look at what happens when one of the world's top athletes falls from grace.
As Armstrong tells Gibney's camera: "I didn't live a lot of lies, but I lived one big one."

Hot Docs is honoured to partner with the Calgary International Film Festival (CIFF) for the fifth consecutive season of Doc Soup Calgary. Launching in November, and then running the first Wednesday of each month from November to April, Doc Soup Calgary brings six of the hottest docs to local audiences, often with a guest filmmaker in attendance to answer questions after the screening.

Eau Claire Market provides plenty of above and below ground parking. Affordable evening and weekend rates start at 5 p.m. Street parking is also available around the market.
Street parking is available outside the Globe Cinema, and is free after 6 p.m. every day, and all day on Sundays. The city provides various parking lots throughout the downtown core, with evening rates beginning at 4 p.m.
