Bach's St. John Passion, The Masterwork Chorus
One of Bach's most dramatic works, the St. John Passion tells the story of Jesus' crucifixion. The main narrative, taken from Luther's translation of the Gospel of John is regularly interrupted with timeouts for arias and eleven reflective chorales. These beautiful choral moments sung in an operatic fashion, not only portray the crowd -- soldiers, priests, and populace -- but were also the work's most interactive aspect in its day. The Masterwork Chorus will be joined by orchestra playing period instruments and professional soloists, including Grammy award winning mezzo soprano, Virginia Warnken. You won't want to miss the pre-concert lecture by noted Bach specialist, Megill. This performance is graciously underwritten in part by Wells Fargo Bank.
