Yoga nidra is a technique that helps you consciously relax. Unlike sleep, where we are often either unconscious or engaged in dreaming, yoga nidra is a threshold state between sleep and wakefulness where awareness is turned inward and external senses are diminished.
This is a highly accessible practice. Much like a guided meditation, the only effort required is to get yourself set up in a quiet, dim space where you can be uninterrupted and either sit or lie down comfortably and listen to the guide. It is restorative and gentle, allowing a weary and hurting body, mind, and heart to rest and heal.
The session will be held on Zoom so you'll need a reliable internet connection. It can feel nurturing to light some candles or have some essential oils nearby or in a diffuser. It's most common to lay flat on the floor for yoga nidra, on a blanket or yoga mat, but you can also rest in a recliner or even on a bed or sofa.
