BRAZILIAN CARNIVAL (a lecture)
In the spirit of the Mardi Gras season, Jovino Santos Neto will give a talk on the history of Carnaval in Brazil, as well as the rhythmic richness of Brazilian music. Jovino will share his insights into Brazil's diverse music styles. Jovino is a dynamic speaker with an encyclopedic knowledge of Brazilian music. A question and answer session will follow the talk.
About the speaker: Three-time Latin Grammy nominee Jovino Santos Neto, a master pianist, composer, arranger, and professor of music is among the top Brazilian musicians working today. His compositions include samba, choro, baião, xote, forró, marcha and many more styles, rooted in centuries-old musical tradition while pointing to new and adventurous harmonic languages. He has throughout his career been closely affiliated with the Brazilian master Hermeto Pascoal, and was an integral part of Pascoal's group from 1977 to 1992, performing around the world and co-producing several legendary records.
