Asheville Fringe Edition Wham! Bam Puppet Slam
The Friday Edition will feature guest artists from The Puppet Arts program at UConn. This program has graduated a diverse, talented assortment of puppeteers and artists since Frank Ballard taught the first classes there in 1964. Now under the tutelage of Bart Roccoberton, the program continues to be one of the most important training grounds for puppeteers in the United States. The UConn Puppet Arts Program is the only one of its kind in the country to offer BFA, MA, and MFA degrees; and its graduates continue to be leaders in the field.
The Sunday Edition will be a special version featuring local puppeteers, Keith Shubert and Madison J. Cripps. These award winning puppeteers travel, teach, and perform various styles of puppetry all over the nation. Together, their collaborative work has won Best Performance and Fan Favorite at the 2013 National Puppetry Festival as well as recent recipients of a 2014 Seed Grant from The Jim Henson Foundation. They are proud to be returning once again to the Asheville Fringe Festival with this unique performance.
