Smokewagon Industries presents WEEKEND AT BERNIE'S: LIVE ON STAGE
Thur/Fri/Sat June 3rd - June 18th The Siren Theater 315 NW Davis 8pm Advance: $18-$22 Door: $22
The hit stage show from 2013 and 2016 returns to the Siren Theater starting June 3rd. Reviewers and sold-out audiences raved about the production.
"Damn, this thing is funny!" - Bob Hicks, Oregon Arts Watch
"It's impressive that the play doesn't feel like parody. In fact, you don't need to have seen the movie to enjoy this production. It just works. A fantastically funny cast and a clever script directed well." - Thomas Ross, the Portland Mercury
"A vulgar delight." - Dirk VanderHart, The Portland Mercury
Bernie Lomax might be dead, but he's still the life of the party! Based on the 1989 movie of the same name, "Bernie's" is the story of two bumbling guys who try to convince the world around them that their dead boss isn't dead. There are beach babes and mob hitmen and fantastical 80s costumes. Stupid right? Yes, but WAIT... it turns out there's a pretty great farce in there, especially after our crack team of comedy writers threw the script on a butcher's block, strapped on some fun-making goggles and went to town on it.
The result is a breakneck, whip-smart, silly and truly funny stage show.
Weekend at Bernie's is brought to you by the same group of veteran comics, actors and writers who have been collectively involved in the popular sketch comedy troupes, The 3rd Floor, Sweat and Bath Night, as well as other 80s stage adaptations of Roadhouse: The Play and Lost Boys: Live!
Collectively, the cast and production team have appeared in IFC's Portlandia, NBC's Grimm, TNT's Leverage and The Librarians. They've worked as regular performers on PRI's national Live Wire Radio and the Daria, Mitch & Ted Show (on 105.1 the Buzz.) They've also appeared in various independent and wide-release films like Wild, Pig, Gone and Twilight (and also movies that have more than one word in the title.) And they've performed and/or produced comedy in Chicago, New York, Seattle and San Francisco.
