Strategies to Support a Peer, Friend or Family Member During Stressful Times -- Kathy Bornino, LMFT
Are you concerned about a friends or family member's behavior or emotional state? Are you wondering if there is anything you can do to help?
Would you like to have the skills you need to help others with these kind of issues in times of stress in their lives?
This class will help you learn how to support a person in distress regain the basic drive to health and wholeness.
There will be information provided and group discussion. We will explore:
three models of peer counseling,
basic principles of crisis intervention,
how to avoid overload and compassion fatigue,
how to set limits while maintaining balance in your life
and how to make sure your own cup of energy and compassion gets filled regularly.
This course has two sessions. At the first class you will learn:
Basic listening skills
Option Process
Basic Crisis Care
Self-Care
At the second class we will review:
Re-evaluation counseling
Some principles from Non-Violent Communication
Crisis Care reviewed and extended
Self-Care reviewed and extended
Kathy Bornino, MA, LMFT has been a licensed Marriage Family Therapist/Psychotherapist in Private Practice in Arroyo Grande for 33 years. She has also taught Psychology in Community College.
This course has two classes. Buying a ticket for this course entitles you to attend both classes.

Attendance Policies
Course attendees will present a government-issued ID such as a passport or driver's license and proof of a full vaccination completed at least 14 days prior to the date of a class. Attendees must show a record of a booster dose of vaccine if the second dose of Pfizer or Moderna vaccine (or the single shot from J&J) was taken more than nine months before the day of the class. Attendees who need a reasonable accommodation due to a medical condition or deeply held religious belief must provide proof of a negative Covid-19 PCR test taken within 72 hours of the class date.
All attendees and volunteers are encouraged to wear masks (covering their nose and mouth) in all areas of all venues used by LLCC and throughout the class. Please stay home if you are feeling ill.
