Circus 617 presents: Gathering the Threads
After a long separation, five friends reunite. This story of picking up the threads - of reconnecting with one another, rediscovering friendship, and rebuilding community - all unfolds with acrobatic poignancy, magic, and mischief. Using a single circus apparatus, the beautifully simple aerial rope, "Gathering the Threads" is an allegory of weaving together loose ends, rebuilding ties, and refinding each other after loss.
This show is presented by Circus 617, a new company dedicated to highlighting homegrown Boston circus artists in new works of contemporary circus. Circus 617 productions meld the spectacular, expressive physicality of circus with theatrical and musical methods of storytelling. "Gathering the Threads" is Circus 617's first feature-length show, and these dates represent the first showing of this new work!
"Gathering the Threads" features an all-original score composed and played live by local musician Miles Wilder. The show was devised by the five-member acrobatic cast: Rachel Barringer, Mandy Hackman, Alexis Hedrick, Sophia Herscu, and Ellen Waylonis. Artistic direction by Sophia Herscu. The show is produced by Ellen Waylonis.
This project is made possible by a Live Arts Boston grant from the Boston Foundation.
Attendees should plan to be masked throughout the performance. Proof of vaccination against covid-19 or recent negative test result required at the door.
