Introduction to Permaculture. Regenerative Low Carbon Living Weekend.
We are thrilled to share this empowering course in the beautiful Abbey Physic Community Garden, our East Kent Permaculture Learning Hub. Both days are stand alone or together form an introduction that follows the Permaculture Association Curriculum for the introduction to Permaculture. This is self responsibility in climate action while caring for ourselves, the planet and using resources well.We will harness the collective intelligence and emerge with a list of ideas, deep dive into exploring the principles of regenerative living for growing food regeneratively and for living well in uncertain times.
We seriously need to be doing something about theses uncertain times. Lets empower ourselves more and work out what we can do that feels good and contributes upscale. So we are empowered to live more resiliently and support those around us when we can. In response to the Climate emergency and Mass extinction 6 how can we feel empowered? This is a practocal series of worksops to help us confidenlty take postive action in our own lives tht we can ripple out into our communities.
We will learn about Permaculture Principles, Ethics and Patterns. See how they can be applied to your life, land and work. It will include practical, hands on sessions, foraging and many other fun activities that all explore this inspirational and empowering design system. Learn nature inspired solutions e will explore low carbon living and feel empowered to move towards this in a way we know will care for people, planet and use resources well. We plan to jhave guest experts and fingers crossed a Sunday site visit as well as being able to demonstrate many techniques on site. Is it enough to take personal r, what more? responsibility Biological realm. Regenerative Food growing techniques. Growing food for biodiversity, Wellbeing and climate action inspired by Permaculture. How to think like a Forest. Foraging- how to eat everything if you know how! This day is part of the Forest Garden/ Food Forest series, stand alone and becomes part of the Intro to Permaculture Weekend. Soil, water, plants, mycelium, a;; scales from nutrition, indoor fermenting and food growing, home garden, agroforestry, rewinding and more... We will learn and make Kombucha to take home.
Sunday 12th June. Behaviour. Self care, Relationships, Community, Economics. How to deal with anxiety, non violent communities and how to do some basic home medicine.. Natural and eco- Building, passives Haus.. Water, energy, buildings, compost toilets. Low carbon regeneratively. What does that even mean? We will demonstrate many of these things and hope to do a site visit too. Guests have been invited to share their experience of eco retro-fitting and living off grid.
Led by experienced and passionate Permaculturalist Jo Barker. She has been applying Permaculture Design and facilitating permaculture courses for nearly 30 years. She has a Diploma in Applied Permaculture Design and is a Diploma and LAND Tutor for the Permaculture Association where she was an active Trustee. She has a background as a professional Landscape Architect, Life Coach and Creative Kinesiologist. She is a Director with the Canterbury Climate Action Partnership and supportive of the aims of XR. This course evolved with both these groups in mind. Supported by Helen Smith. She also has a Diploma in Applied Permaculture Design. She specialises in Children in Permaculture nd world at the Windmill Community garden in Margate. Jo and Helen have been a teaching team for about 10 years. Both have been environmental activists in their communities for several decades involved with lots maybe hundreds of permaculture project and Transition town initiatives. .Jo has 30 years of experience in this area, that's all her adult life has been obsessed by permaculture and community solutions. Helen is n urban permaculturalist and children in permaculture ambassador.
