RUMI NIGHTS
A night of music and poetry featuring Haleh Liza Gafori and Steve Gorn, celebrating the launch of GOLD Poems by Rumi, released by New York Review Books/Penguin Random House
Vocalist, poet, and translator, Haleh Liza Gafori will share new translations of poems by the Persian mystic and sage Rumi. Accompanied by master bansuri flautist Steve Gorn, shell sing dashes of the Farsi text, offering glimpses into the astonishing rhythm, rhyme, and wordplay that propels Rumis original poems.
This dynamic and uplifting share of poem, story, and music inspires and deepens our connection to the mystical insights that grace Rumis poetry.
Steve Gorn, whose flute is said to re-align the cells, combines the essence of the Indian classical music tradition with a contemporary world music sensibility. He is featured on the Grammy winning recording, Miho Journey to the Mountain, with the Paul Winter Consort, as well as the Academy Award winning Documentary film, Born into Brothels, as well as recordings with Paul Simon, Jack DeJonette, Glen Velez and numerous Indian musicians.
