Using found family photographs (mostly 35mm slides), Scott Stark cracks open the family archive to generate imaginative and at times illogical narratives. The Last Forever (in collaboration with Polish filmmaker Kamila Kuc) unravels a story of a missing spouse and possible murder, while Underlying Persistent Volumes populates an instructional video for software development with photos of birthday parties, road trips and Christmas rituals. Including live musical interludes, the program runs roughly 65 minutes.

Film program:
The Last Forever
The Last Forever
(Scott Stark in collaboration with Kamila Kuc, US, 2022, 11 min TRT)
Digitized 35mm slides, live narration, and two videos using scanned 35mm slides

From Scott: In 2020 Kamila and I started a Google doc where every day wed post one or two slides from found family collections (vacations, birthdays, holidays, weddings, etc.) and write a caption for it, extending an exquisite corpse narrative thread. The story often became illogical and multi-directional, but rich with characters and subplots, as we worked intuitively and imaginatively responding to each other. It chronicles the story of a missing spouse and possible murder. This is a work-in-progress which we are continuing to develop.

The Last Forever is accompanied by two short videos that playfully manipulate the images along with music and other sound elements:

The Last Forever: Movement 1 (8 min.) &
The Last Forever: Movement 2 (3 min.)

Abstractions are lifted from the urban palette and deposited atop shapes both organic and inorganic, in an ebb and flow of movement through the city. A kind of breathing.

Accessibility

Ticketing, concessions, cinemas, restrooms, and our public edit lab are located on Northwest Film Forum's ground floor, which is wheelchair accessible. We have a limited number of assistive listening devices available for programs hosted in our larger theater, Cinema 1. These devices are maintained by the Technical Director, and can be requested at the ticketing and concessions counter. The Forum does NOT have assistive devices for the visually impaired, and is not (yet) a scent-free venue. Our commitment to increasing access for our audiences is ongoing, and we welcome all public input on the subject! If you have additional specific questions about accessibility at our venue, please contact our Executive Director Cara Mia Harris at caramia@nwfilmforum.org
