Global Social Entrepreneurship Competition (GSEC) Awards Banquet
Learn how students participating in the UW Global Social Entrepreneurship Competition (GSEC) are using business principles to redress global poverty issues. Featuring keynote speaker Dr. William Foege, Senior Fellow, Global Health Program, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the 2009 GSEC Reception and Awards Banquet will celebrate its fifth year!
GSEC is a business plan competition in which students from around the world find creative, commercially sustainable ways to address problems of poverty in the developing world. It is a leading edge approach to "doing well by doing good" in that it teaches and promotes the use of business principles, by young people, for positive social change on a global scale. GSEC unites the business, non-profit and academic sectors in learning about and supporting innovative and financially feasible solutions to global poverty.
During the reception, attendees will have the chance to meet GSEC teams and learn about their business plans and their GSEC experiences. The banquet will highlight current and past GSEC participants, and Dr. Foege will discuss the successes and impacts of social entrepreneurship as a means for redressing global health and poverty. Prizes for the competition winners will be awarded.
GSEC is organized by the UW Global Business Center at the Michael G. Foster School of Business, with the support of the UW Department of Global Health.
