AIA Orange County Tour of FLIGHT at Tustin Legacy
The program is a guided in person tour of an office complex in Tustin, Orange County which is Phase 1 of a larger master plan of 38-acres of mixed-use project with over 870,000 SF of creative office space.
The project is uniquely located in at the former Marine Corps Air Station in proximity to two extremely large historically designated aircraft hangars. The buildings also include three exceptional murals by SoCal artists.
Learning Objectives:
Attendees will understand how highly efficient working environments help companies maximize productivity, employee satisfaction, and overall success.
Attendees will learn about the site planning and architectural elements of the site that reimagined the site as a new urban neighborhood inspired by the vernacular of aviation. The large, uninterrupted double-height buildings flip traditional organization by positioning the core elements such as lobbies, elevators, stairs, and services to the perimeter to increase usable interior space and catalyze site activity.
The attendees will learn about creative use of exterior materials that complement the industrial looking buildings and create interesting texture and color with functionality to screen the double height open glazing.
While this is a 38-acre master planned site, the attendees will experience the design that starts with an urban grid of pedestrian-friendly streets that extend into the surrounding city, creating a sense of openness not typically found in developments of this size.
