Yes, Your Insurance Company Cares About Climate Change
Environmental considerations have long been a part of the design process. Obviously, architects must consider a projects environment. It is the reason why outdoor malls exist in California but not in Minnesota. But climate change has introduced a host of new environmental concerns for architects to consider and address, including how to design projects to cope with the effects of climate change. As the effects of climate change are becoming more concreteinsurance carriers for architects and other design professionals are taking notice and considering climate change. This presentation is focused on how climate change affects design professionals from an insurance perspective and how insurance companies are currently thinking about and, in the future, may think about climate change.

Presenters:

Paul A. Breucop is an attorney in Collins + Collins LLPs Orange County office. His practice focuses on construction litigation and professional liability, including the representation of architects, engineers, general contractors, and construction managers. Before joining the firm, Mr. Breucop represented investors, including public entities, in securities fraud litigation across the country. He has substantial experience in all phases of litigation, including pre-litigation investigations, pleadings, discovery, class certification, dispositive motions, mediation, and appeals.

Mr. Breucop received his Bachelor of Arts in Classics and Religious Studies from Santa Clara University in 2006 and his Juris Doctor from the University of California Hastings College of the Law in 2011.

CDM SMITH

Adam Reeder is a Principal with CDM Smith with 26 years of experience in a wide range of structural engineering projects. He is a nationally recognized subject matter expert for FEMA's Building Science Branch in wind and flood mitigation. Mr. Reeder is a principle author of over 15 publications for FEMA and has been on three Mitigation Assessment Teams. He developed and teaches FEMAs course on designing buildings for future flood conditions as well as other course on wind and flood mitigation. He is a licensed professional engineer in NC and SC and is a certified floodplain manager.
