Symphony Parnassus 2021-2022 Season Finale-Hélène Wickett, Mozart, Dvorak
W.A. MOZART: Piano Concerto, No.27 in B-flat, K.595 (1791) Hélène Wickett, soloist DVORAK: Symphony No. 7 in D minor, Op.70 (1884)
Mozart's masterful 27th Piano Concerto was his final composition in this form. This concerto was also the last piece he performed in public, at the age of 35.
Dvorak's 7th is regarded among greatest works in the symphonic literature, even though it is less popular than Dvorak's "New World" 9th Symphony. After its world premiere in London, the composer wrote: "The symphony was well liked and the audience acknowledged me and welcomed me in the most ostentatious fashion. There was pandemonium after every movement, rousing to the very end.."
