Gullah Stick Pounding - Melanie DeMore
Learn the basics of Gullah Stick Pounding. We will create a foot-stomping, hand-clapping rhythmic community and combine it with singing spirituals and songs of protest and peace. Participants will learn about Gullah/Geechee culture through its dynamic music and rhythmic heart.
We will, as a community, turn the whole place into a living, breathing drum. Each participant will receive a pounding stick at the workshop that you can personalize during the day. If you have items you would like to use, bring it along (ribbons, cloth, shells, beads, stones whatever represents you.
The price of the pounding sticks is included in the intensive registration fee.
The cost of this workshop is not included in the 2022 National Womens Music Festival Pass.
