Himat Fundraiser
"Himat" is an Urdu word meaning courage, perseverance in the face of difficulties, empowerment. This was the name given to an initiative that began 12 years ago in the northernmost part of Pakistan in a region called Hunza high in the Karakoram mountains bordering Afghanistan, Tajikistan and China.
After 2 years of COVID restriction, the annual Himat fundraiser is back with performances by:
* Horizon Ridge, whose members have been called storytellers in song. Horizon Ridge is a group of fine multi-instrumentalists and seasoned vocalists known for their intuitive tight harmonies and polished a cappella singing. Based in Calgary, Alberta, band members Helen and Steve Goodchild, Peter May, and Dianne Quinton draw musical inspiration from their roots and from journeys near and far to embrace traditional and contemporary folk, country, blues and gospel.
* Ben Rose, who has been called "The Worlds' Best Wedding Band" because he can play everybody's music from any era like it is brand new. One of Ben's special talents is to read a room to bring everyone music that it is special to them.
The event will also feature a silent auction and an opportunity for you to make a donation if your heart is so moved.
You will also have the opportunity to learn more about what the Himat project has been accomplishing during this challenging time and its expansion into the Khanewal region of South Punjab where literacy rates range from 10 to 25% and where government schools and health clinics do not offer any services because workers do not bother to show up.
Come for the music and come for the sense of community with others who are showing up to make a difference.
