Have you found it hard to begin keeping a journal, much less maintain it?  Do you need to jump-start or to re-charge this valuable habit?

This class presents a deeper dimension of personal writing, not the diary of our youth, nor the whining of early adulthood, but rather, in Christina Baldwins words, a voyage to the interior. Our entries are not descriptions of what is happening, but are explorations of how we are responding; thereby, turning events and experiences into meaningful insights and new intentions.  Deep journaling helps us go from confusion to clarity, from habitual fears to the courageous change, and from automatic reactions to considered reflection. Through a committed journaling practice, we weave the inner world of imagination and memory with the outer world of families, illness, obligations, and aspirations. Furthermore, we discover and articulate inner wisdom and expand our sense of wonder to deepen our connection to the natural cycle of life.

Please bring a pen or pencil and paper for responding to and sharing a few writing prompts that will stimulate your curiosity and commitment.  A bibliography of print and digital resources will be given to facilitate a regular practice.

In this class, you will:
1.  Explore different approaches to keeping a deep journal.
2.  Consider ways to establish and maintain a regular journaling practice.
3.  Discover inspirational and motivational print and digital resources.
4.  Begin to deepen relationship with self, others, and the natural cycle of life.

Berta Parrish is a retired college educator, writer, and a certified Conscious Aging Facilitator with a strong background in Jungian and Archetypal Psychology. Her book Wise Woman's Way: A Guide to Growing Older with Purpose and Passion guides women through the initiatory experience that our culture needs, yet lacks.
