JAYKE ORVIS AND THE BROKEN BAND JAMES HUNNICUTT WICKLOW ATWATER & the FALLEN FLAME CONFEDERALES $7 DOORS: 8 PM / SHOW: 9 PM
JAYKE ORVIS AND THE BROKEN BAND: Take the basic principles of punk rock -ala Fear, circa early 80's, and the breakneck precision of Bill Monroe & His Bluegrass Boys and you might just begin to get a sense of what Jayke Orvis is all about. A native of Milwaukee, WI, Orvis has been setting and raising the bar for punks-turned-pickers ever since his days in .357 String Band -of which he is a founding and former member. Known for his lightning quick mandolin picking, he effortlessly infuses punk, rock, blues, gypsy, honky-tonk, bluegrass and old-time to develop a style all his own helping to define the sound of a genre while simultaneously, and gratifyingly, making it all that much more difficult to pin a name onto. After leaving Milwaukee in 2007 he relocated to Pittsburgh, PA where he now calls home, that is when he's not touring nearly full-time as mandolin and banjo player with The Goddamn Gallows, or for his own project Jayke Orvis & The Broken Band. As singer, instrumentalist, composer, and bandleader, Orvis relies on an impressive live lineup assembled for The Broken Band: including Jared McGovern on upright bass, Liz Sloan on fiddle, and singer-writer in his own right: guitarist James Hunnicutt. Jayke Orvis's debut offering, It's All Been Said, was released in 2010 on Farmageddon Records. The ten-song album, recorded by J.B. Beverly at his Richmond-based Rebel Roots Studio, highlights a more personal side of Orvis's songwriting, masterfully running the gamut from dusty countrified ballads to infectious, flat picked throw-downs between he and the other artists gathered for the recording, including J.B. Beverly, Johnny Lawless, Dan Mazer, James Hunnicutt, Avery (of The Goddamn Gallows), and cigar box guitar whiz Geo Ballentine. It's All Been Said continues drawing more and more attention to Orvis who has recently received airplay on Sirius, earned an official endorsement from Weber Mandolins, and celebrates an Artist of the Year 2010 nod from Saving Country Music. Jayke Orvis & The Broken Band are currently in the studio putting the final touches on Jayke's sophomore release "Bless This Mess" to be released on Farmageddon Records February of the 2013.
JAMES HUNNICUTT: James Hunnicutt is one of the few artists that can take the stage alone and get your strict attention, immediately. When James plays music he digs deep and pulls out some kind of hellfire. Hunnicutt's songwriting is compelled by the gray area right between love and pain, that mans voice is almost surreal. He has been pigeonholed as a retro rocker, but that might be one percent of what encapsulates James Hunnicutt. His guitar playing ability and vocal range are in a league of their own. James leaves no stone unturned when he pines for musical inspiration, most of the greats never did. His music styles are timeless and so is the man. His writings are honest and are only an extension of his heart and hand. Hunnicutt is a kind, humble and good natured being, if you are his friend, you are blessed. His depth is infinite and he is just getting warmed up. James Hunnicutt is one of the hardest working musicians on the road today, playing an average of 250 shows a year. He often tours solo, playing lead guitar in Jayke Orvis & The Broken Band, sitting in with Graham Lindsey, Filthy Still, or The Goddamn Gallows to name a few. James is currently working on several new projects, and we can expect to see a lot from this talented man in the near future.
WICKLOW ATWATER and The FALLEN FLAME is an American band. They formed and remain based in Atwater Village, Southern California. Being born and raised in the same neighborhood all five members have been the best of friends since childhood which has created an unbreakable bond that some describe as brotherhood, in turn this has created a unique energy between the group that you can sense off and on stage. Although its impossible to label Wicklow Atwater as a single genre it is safe to say they play a brand of acoustic music known as Americana which encompasses a blend of bluegrass, old time, country, folk, blues, ragtime, and rockabilly. The group consists of array of Multi-instrumentalists who have been recording, producing and releasing their own music without the aid of a record label through various show earnings and out of pocket expenditures. Growing up with big dreams and humble beginnings the boys have gotten by on a supportive fan base and a do it yourself mentality that goes hand in hand with an old fashion punk rock ethic. The Ultimate goal of the band is simple, to serenade the nation and to live and experience the beauty that this country has to offer through touring and performing on road. With that said Wicklow Atwater and the Fallen Flame does not wish to set the world on fire, they just want to reignite the fallen flame in America's heart.
