10th Annual Living Breath Indigenous Foods Symposium
Join us in celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the Living Breath of wbaltx Indigenous Foods Symposium as we return back to an in-person event! Our annual event draws over 300 people from the UW campus community, regional tribal and urban Indigenous communities, and throughout the U.S, Canada, Mexico, and Aotearoa New Zealand. Our symposium is a signature event for the UW Intellectual House and has become an important venue for bringing together people from diverse communities and organizations who share the same commitment to protecting Indigenous homelands and the environment. It serves to foster dialogue and build collaborative networks as Indigenous peoples strive to sustain cultural food practices and preserve healthy relationships to the land, water, and all living things.
In honor of our 10th anniversary, our theme this year is Learn from the Past, Celebrate the Present, Hope for the Future and we have invited back previous speakers to share their perspectives over the last ten years and reflect on the work we have done in this space.
Your registration includes continental breakfast and lunch with traditional Northwest Coast foods prepared by Indigenous chefs. The symposium will be on May 13 and 14, 9 am to 5 pm PST. Doors open at 8:30 am for check in and registration.
On the day of: For the safety of our elders, our families and ourselves we ARE requiring that you wear an N95 mask inside the Intellectual House venue when you are not eating. We will have masks available at the registration table and will be reminding that people to please wear them. We can all do our part to make this a safe event, so if you can, you might do a covid rapid home test before you come. If you are ill the day of the event, please stay home and contact Dian Million, dianm@uw.edu if you need a refund. This is for the safety of elder, vulnerable and all registered guests. WE CARE ABOUT YOU! Please help us. Our full safety requirements will be posted during the event.
