Valentyn Vasyanovych Ukraine 2020 1h 48m
About ** Winner of six awards at the Ukrainian Film Academy Awards, incl. Best Film & Best Director. Recipient of the Krzysztof Kieslowski Award for Best Feature Film at Denver International Film Festival **
Comprised of a mere 28 gorgeous shots, Atlantis is a visionary sci-fi drama set in Eastern Ukraine, in the year 2025. Following a war with Russia, the land has become a desert, unsuitable for human habitation. Water is a dear commodity brought by trucks. A Wall is being built up along the border.
Sergiy, a former soldier, is having trouble adapting to his new reality. He meets Katya while on a mission dedicated to the exhumation and forensic identification of casualties of the war. Together, they try to return to some sort of normal life in which they are also allowed to fall in love again.
(Valentyn Vasyanovych, Ukraine, 2020, 108 min, in English & Ukrainian with English subtitles)
Atlantis was Ukraines official selection for the 2021 Academy Awards.
Dazzling, strange, tragic, comic, touching and eventually optimistic. Masterful. Robert Abele, Los Angeles Times An electrifying post-apocalyptic vision. One of the most jaw-dropping shots of the year Absolutely deserving of the biggest canvas possible. Ryan Lattanzio, Indiewire A strong piece of poetically pure art-house cinema that offers a ray of hope for humanitys future. Dennis Harvey, Variety

Accessibility
Ticketing, concessions, cinemas, restrooms, and our public edit lab are located on Northwest Film Forum's ground floor, which is wheelchair accessible. We have a limited number of assistive listening devices available for programs hosted in our larger theater, Cinema 1. These devices are maintained by the Technical Director, and can be requested at the ticketing and concessions counter.
The Forum does NOT have assistive devices for the visually impaired, and is not (yet) a scent-free venue. Our commitment to increasing access for our audiences is ongoing, and we welcome all public input on the subject!
If you have additional specific questions about accessibility at our venue, please contact our Executive Director Cara Mia Harris at caramia@nwfilmforum.org
