February Fusion Fest Fundraiser
An evening of wine, fine food, entertainment, a silent auction and an announcement of the first ever recipient of the Yuriko Doi Legacy Award.
The Fourth Annual February Fusion Fest Fundraiser will be a very special evening of food, wine and entertainment as well as an auction to raise money for Theatre of Yugen. We are pleased to have Slow Food Movement pioneer chef Leif Hedendal preparing the evening's meal. Not only will guests enjoy this one-of-a kind meal and festive beverages, we will present our long-time artistic associates performing various ambient music sets, and our headlining group: the fun and witty performance ensemble, Clowns on a Stick. Our 35th Season's February Fusion Fest Fundraiser will also include a special presentation for our Company's Founder Yuriko Doi and the announcement of the first ever recipient of the Yuriko Doi Legacy Award.
The Yuriko Doi Legacy Award On February 22, at our 4th Annual February Fusion Fest Fundraiser, we will announce the winner of the 1st ever Yuriko Doi Legacy Award in acknowledgment of Theatre of Yugen Founder, and ongoing Artistic Associate, Yuriko Doi. The award will go to an artist making original work for the theatre, who has dedicated their creative lives to innovating within tradition. The award is both to acknowledge their accomplishments and to support their continuing ability to generate work. An amazing array of candidates has been nominated from as far away as Cambodia and Italy.
Chef Leif Hedendal It is our extreme good fortune to have chef Leif Hedendal on board to provide the evening's dining experience. Mr. Hedendal was chosen as one of Paper Magazine's 2013 Beautiful People and has worked in the kitchens of Noma and Chez Panisse. An independent chef and forager, Mr. Hedendal says his goal is for guests to "engage critically with ideas of community, progress, nature, nutrition, food sovereignty, agriculture, culture and the blending of art and life." He has stated, "I hope to encourage thought on all the types of creative ways art and food activism can fuel and inspire each other, and how they can be intertwined."
Auction Items include: Theatre Nohgaku's Noh Costume Workshop in Japan; Sewing Lessons with Designer Marilyn Yu; Theatre tickets from Cal Shakes, ACT, Magic Theatre, Ragged Wing Ensemble, SF Ballet and more; Dining Gift Certificates to local fine restaurants such as Jones in downtown SF; Artwork, Spa treatments, Yoga lessons and much, much more!!
Performers Wendy Gilmore will play the shakuhachi flute. Polly Moller will play the bass and soprano flutes. Edward Schocker will perform and is the co-founder of experimental DIY music ensemble Thingamajigs. Clowns on a Stick Burlesque Clown fun! Clowns on a Stick is "three clowns that do with hyperbolic gesticulation what is usually done with a lot of words. It's fun, funny, and only sometimes scary." With James Pelican and Christina Lewis.
