Event
Johnny Johnson by Paul Green
OdysseyStage presents a staged reading of Pulitzer Prize winning playwright Paul Green's antiwar play Johnny Johnson. The play, based on Green's war experiences, is the story of a small-town soldier who enlists in the army with the faith that he can help bring about the end of war.
Johnny Johnson has been performed in the US and internationally multiple times since its Broadway premiere in 1936 by the Group Theatre. Kurt Weill wrote the music.
The Paul Green Foundation commissioned playwright Debra Kaufman to write an adaptation in 2021, since the play has gone out of print.
A talk-back follows the reading, followed by a light reception. This event is supported by a grant from the Paul Green Foundation.
Masks and proof of vaccination required. Recommended for ages 10 and up.
