Container Gardening Basics and Beyond - IN PERSON DEMO
Theres always a place for container gardening from the brightly lit windowsill indoors to the deck or patio or incorporated into the landscape as a stunning design elementor all of the above. Whether growing food or ornamental plants there is much to learn about the varied types and sizes of containers, potting soils, and amendments, planting strategies, and ongoing care and maintenance.
Join master gardeners Anastatia Foster and Sue Procter in the UC Master Gardener Demonstration Garden for plenty of hands-on opportunities to dig in and learn by doing. This class will incorporate lecture and experiential learning as attendees rotate through varied stations with the guidance of master gardeners to gain mastery of container gardening.
Youll heft and select pots, blend potting soils, skillfully handle the foliage and roots of plants in the process of planting them into a container, thoughtfully arrange plants within a pot for show and/or growing function, and add finishing touches of top dressing and watering-in. Well manage the challenges of root-bound plants, drilling holes in pots to gain proper drainage, and commit to ongoing maintenance of watering, fertilizing, pest management, pruning, and the eventual potting-up to a larger container for growth or rejuvenation.
Bring a small sized pot of your choice to plant and take home at the end of class. Cost REDUCED To $20 Limit: 30 people
Covid Safety - Even though this is an outdoor class, we recommend you bring and wear a mask regardless of vaccination status. You'll be asked to answer COVID-19 symptom questions at check-in so please arrive 15 min early to get settled. Please dress appropriately for sun, rain, or fog.
