Annual Winter Rye Tasting
Bourbon is all the rage, and of course we love Bourbon, but its edgier cousin Rye offers a unique perspective on American whiskey. Rye is typically more rustic, fruitier, spicier, and less sweet than Bourbon, and is our choice for a punchier whiskey, especially in crafting cocktails, in which Rye works very well to balance out the sweetness of liqueurs.
On January 15th, we'll offer an opportunity to try ten Ryes, including some that are classic (Templeton & Sazerac), local (Fremont Mischief), highly allocated (Willet & Thomas Handy), nicely aged (Lock, Stock & Barrel, aged 13 years), and eclectic (Angel's Envy, aged in Caribbean rum casks).
You'll get to learn about this American classic while enjoying 1/4-oz. samples of all of the Ryes: we'll discuss the history of Rye, how it's distilled, and how to use it in classic cocktails. You'll leave with half a dozen recipes so you can start adding Rye to your cocktail repertoire at home.
