California Flora Survival in Prolonged Drought -- Pete Sarafian
Thursday, April 21, 2022  10:00am - `12:00pm

Meet at Elfin Forest Parking Lot

$5 for LLCC members, $10 for non-members

You will be taking a field trip to the El Moro Elfin Forest in Los Osos.

You will be able to observe various species of native California flora close at hand. You will learn about the various adaptations these species used to evolve and survive for centuries in the arid California environment. Some of the species  you should be able to see are sagebrush, black sage, mock heather, coastal live oak trees, poison oak, fuchsia flowering gooseberry and ceanothus.

This walk will be a maximum of one mile.  We will take a break half way through the tour.  There are several benches to sit along the route.  Please dress appropriately for the weather and wear comfortable shoes.

Where we meet:  Park along the north end of 15th Street (not blocking driveways) off of Santa Ysabel Ave. in Los Osos and walk to the sand trailhead. Handicapped people can park next to the wheelchair ramp at the north end of 16th Street and proceed to the loop on the boardwalk.

Pete Sarafian has a PhD in Nuclear Engineering.  He has over 20 years of experience in environmental conservation work.  He is a docent at the El Moro Elfin Forest Natural Area in Los Osos.
