Nordista Freeze / Waltzer / Polyplastic at the 'Dad Lounge
NORDISTA FREEZE
https://www.nordistafreeze.com
The term road warrior was made for Nordista Freeze. In fact, the Nashville psych-pop artist is such a prolific performer that, as of the beginning of May 2021, he boasted 516 live shows since 2016 a rate of one every three nights for almost five years. So its fitting that on his latest full-length, Big Sky Pipe Dream, Freeze comes as close as he ever has to capturing his live sound on tape literally.
Big Sky Pipe Dream is a collection of songs Freeze and his band had long kept in rotation on the road, recorded live in the studio and tracked to tape between stints on tour starting in 2018, almost a documentation of life on the road circa 2018-2021. Citing David Brynes influential book How Music Works and how music is sculpted to fill the space one resides in, Freeze intentionally crafted the album to represent the sound of playing in dive bars and DIY venues.
WALTZER
https://www.waltzermusic.com
Chicago based, dark soul, rock n roll weirdo, Waltzer is a reminder of our favorite artists who still haunt us today. Summoning influences such as George Harrison, Ronnie Spector, Harry Nillson and more.
POLYPLASTIC
https://polyplastic.bandcamp.com
Polyplastic is an intricate labyrinth, a siren call beckoning you in. Drawing on a diverse palette of new wave sounds, industrial aesthetics and infrastructure, Polyplastic is a band as boundless as its influences. Members Charlie Ellis and Emily Ibarra are Los Angeles natives who have worked as musicians and behind the scenes for many other bands over the years while slowly steeping the tea that has become Polyplastic.Their debut studio album, Medium Complications, tosses out musical cliches to marry once- estranged genres and bridge unexpected emotions. Its post-punk with a splash of melodrama, music to dance to while lost in thought. It grabs you with a sound that is familiar yet unplaceable, then shocks you with a lick of the avant-garde. Even in songs fueled by feelings of alienation and anxiety, there are equal parts buoyancy and light. Its music that proves there is communion to be found in our shared loneliness.Produced by the bands guitarist Dylan Bostick, Medium Complications is mixed by Sonny DiPerri (DIIV, The Drums, Protomartyr) and Mastered by Stephen Marcussen. The first two singles, Brain Masher and I See a Dip both debuted at #30 on the FMQB radio chart. I See a Dip will have an accompanying music video directed by Ellis in collaboration with Rie Katagiri and other members of the bands artistic community. Along with the release of the album in March 2022 the band will be touring in the spring and are an official artist for SXSW 2022.
