Behind-the-Scenes Tour: From Hoop Skirts to Mini Skirts at the CHS
Whether it is a yellow silk dress worn to Lincoln's inaugural ball, or a psychedelic maxi dress from the 1960s, our costume collection tells the story of women's fashion in Connecticut. We'll share that story with everything from wedding dresses to corsets, but we'll also explore how women worked to secure their health, freedom, and political participation.
When you visit our beautiful and informative exhibits, you are actually experiencing only a tiny fraction of the CHS collection. Hanging under muslin, placed carefully on shelves, hiding in drawers, the objects and images that tell the story of Connecticut are waiting to be shared. We invite you to experience that history in a way only a very few cancome and explore with an all-access pass to see hidden treasures of Connecticut history and learn about how museums work. Behind-the-Scenes Tours will be held every other month at 2:00 pm. The tours last approximately 1 hour and take visitors to the non-public areas of the museum to explore the riches of the CHS collections. $6 for CHS members, $12 for non-members Season Pass for 6 Tours: $30 CHS members, $60 non-members Limited space. Preregistration required. Questions? Contact Adult Programs Manager Jenny Steadman via email Jennifer_steadman@chs.org or phone (860) 236-5621, ext. 289.
