Behind-the-Scenes Tour: The Civil War 150 Years Later at the CHS
In honor of the Civil War 150th Anniversary Commemoration, take this rare opportunity to see Civil War-related material not usually on view to the public, including examples of private letters between soldiers and their families, uniforms, swords, guns and bayonets, and even hardtack from the 1860s. The tour culminates with the flag that decorated President Lincoln's box at Ford's Theater the night he was assassinated.
When you visit our beautiful and informative exhibits, you are actually experiencing only a tiny fraction of the CHS collection. Hanging under muslin, placed carefully on shelves, hiding in drawers, the objects and images that tell the story of Connecticut are waiting to be shared. We invite you to experience that history in a way only a very few cancome and explore with an all-access pass to see hidden treasures of Connecticut history and learn about how museums work. Behind-the-Scenes Tours will be held every other month at 2:00 pm. The tours last approximately 1 hour and take visitors to the non-public areas of the museum to explore the riches of the CHS collections. $6 for CHS members, $12 for non-members Season Pass for 6 Tours: $30 CHS members, $60 non-members Limited space. Preregistration required. Questions? Contact Adult Programs Manager Jenny Steadman via email Jennifer_steadman@chs.org or phone (860) 236-5621, ext. 289.
