Foghorn Duo, Bill Evans & Megan Lynch, Eric & Suzy Thompson
San Francisco Bluegrass & Old-Time Festival Amazing Duos
Foghorn Duos Caleb Klauder and Stephen Sammy Lind began playing music together in 2000 in Portland, Ore. They have performed traditional American old-time music all over the globe with their band the Foghorn Stringband. As a duo they have been performing weekly at a winery near Portland since 2003, switching between guitar, mandolin, fiddle, banjo and vocals. Their vocals are simple and honest, with intertwining harmonies similar to the Carter Family and Stanley Brothers. Although their repertoire is mainly traditional, Calebs stellar original songs and tunes fit right in next to any classic. foghorn.com.
Since teaming up as a touring duo a year and half ago, Albany, Calif. and Nashville, Tenn., bluegrass mainstays Bill Evans & Megan Lynch have been performing all around the United States and in the United Kingdom and Ireland. Spanning a 35 year professional performing career, banjo player and Banjo For Dummies author Bill Evans has performed with Dry Branch Fire Squad, Peter Rowan, David Grisman, Hazel Dickens, his own Bill Evans String Summit and others. Folks know Megan Lynch from her National Championship fiddling credentials and from her performances with 3 Fox Drive, Due West, Dale Ann Bradley, Tony Trischka, Chris Jones, Roland White and Jim Hurst. Drawing on singer-songwriter and alternative rock sources as much as traditional old-time and bluegrass music, they create music thats intensely intimate but truly difficult to categorize. myspace.com/billevansandmeganlynch.
Virtuoso roots musicians Eric and Suzy Thompson specialize in the down-home sounds of the American South. Their musical palette includes Appalachian story-songs and bluegrass breakdowns, classic country blues, Louisiana Cajun dance music and paso dobles from Puerto Rico. Erics flatpicking on guitar and mandolin is exceptional for its purity of tone, speed and soulfulness; Suzy is a powerful singer, an award-winning fiddler and Cajun accordion player who has apprenticed with older generation Louisiana Cajun musicians under an NEA Fellowship. Founding members of many influential roots music groups including the Black Mountain Boys, Any Old Time, the Klezmorim and the California Cajun Orchestra, Eric and Suzy have also worked with Jerry Garcia, Maria Muldaur, David Grisman, Peter Rowan, Darol Anger, Laurie Lewis, and many others. bluegrassintentions.com/ericandsuzy.htm
