Landpaths and SHED present: Mushroom Foraging + Cooking Edible Fungi
Join SHED & LandPaths as we foray for fungi at the beautiful LandPaths' Riddell Preserve in the hills above Dry Creek, just west of Healdsburg.  We'll saunter through the oak and madrone woodlands where we hope to find many edible & medicinal mushroom species.  This is a special opportunity to visit the Riddell Preserve, open only for guided tours.

About the Riddell Preserve:  Nestled in the rugged hills just a few miles west of downtown Healdsburg is a rare treasure. A spectacular 400 acre property-a mile and a half long by half a mile wide-LandPaths' Riddell Preserve encompasses diverse flora, high quality wildlife habitat and headwater land interspersed with perennial springs and stream channels.
Not merely breathtakingly beautiful, the land is wild and natural. This amazing place has been relatively untouched by human interference, nurturing remarkable stands of mature and regenerating oak and madrone woodland, with islands of second-growth redwood emerging from the hardwood canopy, and vigorous stands of native bunch grass.
About the Hike:  We will be hiking 1-2 miles roundtrip along a steep road through the property. The distance we cover all depends on how many mushrooms we find. Our foray will include lots of stops off-trail to collect fungi.

Mushroom Collection:  Our intention is to collect the mushrooms we find, then return to SHED to I.D. them, indulge in some hot beverages and cook up the edible varieties!

Where:  We will meet at SHED to condense into a few cars & carpool to the Riddell Preserve.  It is approximately 20 min from SHED.  The road to Riddell can be muddy in the winter.  We'll need a few volunteers with high clearance vehicles willing to drive.  Please let us know if you're willing to drive & how many passengers you can carry.

What to bring:  Water, snacks, sturdy walking shoes that can get muddy, comfortable clothing in layers, pocket knife for cleaning off mushrooms, binoculars if you are a "bird-inclined," walking stick, camera, basket to collect mushrooms, a whistle if you are inclined to wander, mushroom and lichen id books (if you have them) and a group spirit that will allow us to stay together and have fun!
(We have some mushroom harvesting knives and other foraging tools available for purchase at SHED as well if you come early.)

Details, Details:
You will be asked to sign a liability waiver to visit the Preserve.
No smoking or pets & absolutely no smoking pets!
There is a bathroom on the property, but we will be in the woods for most of the trip.  We have ample topographic diversity to accommodate you.
