Langtoun Jazz celebrates International Jazz Day with Helena Kay & Pete Johnstone
Award winning saxophonist Helena Kay returns to Fife for a special gig to celebrate International Jazz Day. She will be presenting a duo project with pianist, Pete Johnstone Helena Kay grew up in Perth and came to attention in the Fife Youth Jazz Orchestra. She moved to London in 2012 to begin studying at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, graduating in 2016 with a First Class in BMus Jazz (Hons) In 2015 she won the Young Scottish Jazz Musician of the Year award, and in 2017 she won the Peter Whittingham Jazz Award which she used to record and release her debut album Moon Palace. Helena has played at many of the major Festivals and jazz venues across the UK. In Scotland, she has played with the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra & Paul Towndrows Keywork Orchestra Pete Johnstone was part of the first cohort to graduate from the RCS Jazz Course. He continued to a masters in Classical keyboard and is currently completing his Doctoral degree. He performs with Tommy Smith in his quartet and duo regularly and also with his own piano trio. He received the Young Scottish Jazz Musician of the Year award in 2012, a Yamaha Jazz scholarship in 2013 and recently a Gleneagles scholarship.
