Event
two from a smith
commonwealth tells the story of some people who get together in a room somewhere to listen to a story, think about where they are, and what and how they might be doing.
all that is solid melts into air is a gentle meditation on existence, a plea for some humanity, a break from some of what might be happening outside.
Andy Smith has been making theatre under the name a smith since 2003, producing characteristically simple works unafraid to approach and address big subjects. He is the co-director (with Karl James) of the award winning plays An Oak Tree, ENGLAND and The Author by Tim Crouch, and along with Tim the co-writer and performer of what happens to the hope at the end of the evening.
all that is solid melts into air is a co-production between a smith, BIT Teatergarasjen (Bergen) and Black Box Teater (Oslo) and was supported by Norsk Kulturrad. commonwealth was commissioned by Gateshead International Festival of Theatre (GIFT) 2012 and developed at Pilot, Birmingham
