The Bucky Walters, Jimmy Chickenpants, Brothers Comatose
San Francisco Bluegrass & Old-Time Festival
The name may sound like some folk legend or a retired baseball player, but The Bucky Walters is in fact an up-and-coming band hailing from the soggy bottoms of Arcata, Calif. This sounds of this young acoustic sextet has a nostalgic bluegrass vibe that maintains a fresh, hot-pickin intensity, attracting music lovers across the board. Since their start in 2005, The Bucky Walters has shared the bill with artists such as David Grisman, Peter Rowan, Todd Phillips, Laurie Lewis, Joe Craven, and Greensky Bluegrass. thebuckywaltersmusic.com
Who IS Jimmy Chickenpants? No one really knows, but the band hails from the Santa Cruz area. They put the hick in chicken with music that combines bluegrass, newer-grass, jazz-grass and original-grass, otherwise known as Poultry In Motion. Jimmy has been touted as one of Santa Cruz's best-kept secrets by KPIG radio. This seasoned outfit is a sure-fire delight with Joni Davies (vocals), Hide Kawatsure (mandolin) Ken Clarkson (banjo), Wayne Chojo Jacques (fiddle) and Jim Cuz Davies (bass). jimmychickenpants.com
A band of true friends, the Brothers Comatose have roots in wine fueled jam sessions in their parents living rooms. For well over a decade, Ben Morrison (vocals, guitar, foot tambourine), Alex Morrison (vocals, banjo, lead guitar, beard), Joe Pacini (mandolin, swords), Giovanni Benedetti (stand up bass, vocals) and Philip Brezina (fiddle) have been playing music they love for friends, family and fans. myspace.com/thebrotherscomatose
