Let's Talk
"Let's Talk" is a TEDTalk like event, February 13, from 6 pm - 7:30 pm. This event will take place in the Falmouth High School auditorium unless COVID protocol encourages otherwise. If in the auditorium, as planned, masks will be required. Should COVID protocol ask that gatherings be limited, the event will take place over Zoom in a webinar format.
Who is Speaking?
Oronde Kruger who will cover consent education and LGBTQ+ rights, "worked as a Speak About It educator for years before being promoted to Program Coordinator, then Program Manager. Oronde graduated with a degree in neuroscience from Bowdoin College where he studied learning and memory along with hormones and behavior. His background mixed with his deep love for facilitating difficult discussions has served him well working with young folks trying to better understand the complexities of intimacy. His experiences helped to inform his 2018 TEDx talk about redefining masculinity and the importance of vulnerability in the process. He has found a home in Portland, Maine, and is the proud co-founder of Heart of Hospitality, a coalition of violence prevention groups and service industry professionals dedicated to improving the safety of venues across the state.
Larissa Malone, Ph.D.will discuss Race and Education. "Larissa Malone, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor at the University of Southern Maine in the Teacher Education Department. Dr. Malone earned a doctorate in Cultural Foundations of Education from the School of Foundations, Leadership, and Administration at Kent State University, a MA from Walsh University, and a BA in International Studies from Case Western Reserve University. Dr. Malone also holds a primary teacher certification from the American Montessori Internationale and taught early childhood and early elementary grades, as well as served as an administrator in a bilingual community-based school, before joining the ranks of higher education. A critical race theorist, Dr. Malones research centers on the minoritized experience in schooling, inclusive of students, parents, and teachers. She is particularly interested in how the marginalized navigate educational spaces and the intersection of education, race, and tangential disciplines, such as religion, geography, and identity development. Dr. Malones aim in her research and praxis is towards creating a more equitable world."
Anne Gass will deliver a speech about Women's Right's History. "Anne Gass is the great-granddaughter of a Maine suffrage leader. She is the author of Voting Down the Rose: Florence Brooks Whitehouse and Maine's Fight for Woman Suffrage, and We Demand: The Suffrage Road Trip. She speaks regularly on her books and on womens rights history at libraries, museums, schools, and other venues. She serves on Maine's Permanent Commission on the Status of Women and is Vice-Chair of the Gray Town Council."
