San Francisco Bluegrass & Old-Time Festival Old-Time Show
The original lineup of The Crooked Jades reunite tonight for one special show to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the festival they helped to found. Sharing the stage for the first time in 5 years are band leader Jeff Kazor (vocals, guitar), Lisa Berman (vocals, slide guitar, banjo), Stephanie Prausnitz (fiddle) and Tom Lucas (vocals, banjos), joined by Crooked Jades alumnae Erik Pearson (harmonium, banjo, ukuleles) and Megan Adie (bass), playing from the catalogue of music they recorded during their years together. From driving dance tunes to mournful ballads, they play with a thrilling energy and innovation. crookedjades.com
Based in Eureka, California, Huckleberry Flint is breathing fresh life into old-time music. From honky-tonk to tender mountain ballads, and selections culled straight from the hymnal, this youthful stringband draws from the canon of traditional American music. The interactions between band members Marybeth Taylor (fiddle, vocals), Adam Dick (mandolin, banjo, vocals), Dustin Taylor (guitar, harmonica, vocals), Kevin Porter (dobro, guitar, vocals) and Nick Hoffman (upright bass) form the basis of their live show. Huckleberry Flint has performed with both Uncle Earl and The Be Good Tanyas. myspace.com/huckleberryflintband
The Water Tower String Band (Josh Rabie, Kenny Feinstein, Cory Goldman and Walter Spencer) is a traditionally rooted band that has a style that fuses the hard driving energy of a powerhouse old time stringband with the skillful instrumental interplay and tight harmonies of bluegrass and country music. In the spring of 2008 they self-released their Squid and the Fiddle, and are nearing completion of their second studio album and gearing up for another festival season. myspace.com/watertowerstringband;cdbaby.com/wtsb
DJ Tom LG Vintage 78 Disc Jockey has fashioned himself after the original radio DJs spinning vintage old-time and bluegrass 78s from the 1920s through the 50s.
