GEEZER by Geoff Hoyle
The Marsh is delighted to welcome Geoff Hoyle to the Marsh stage for a Marsh Rising performance of GEEZER, his new solo show about getting older. (Geezer, n. Slang. An old person, especially an eccentric old man.)
Geoff Hoyle was the original Zazu in the Broadway cast of The Lion King and appeared off-Broadway in his solo show, Feast of Fools. More recently, he appeared in Mr. Fox by Bill Irwin and as the Dog in Tony Kushner's and Maurice Sendak's adaptation of the children's opera Brundibar, directed by long-term associate Tony Taccone.
He trained with Marcel Marceau's teacher, Etienne Decroux, and has clowned with Circus Flora, The Pickle Family Circus, and Cirque du Soleil. His award-winning shows Boomer!, Feast of Fools, The Convicts Return, Geni(us), and The First Hundred Years have been seen in New York, San Francisco, Paris, London, Berlin, Taiwan, England, and the former Soviet Union. Regional theater appearances include Berkeley Rep, Arena Stage, Seattle Rep, A.C.T., La Jolla Playhouse, and American Repertory Theatre.
Last summer he performed his fabled three-legged dance in the oldest theater in Italy, the Teatro della Pergola, built in Florence in 1656. He is about to spend five months in Seattle with Teatro Zinzanni as Volodya the chef; Bobo, the Gypsy violinist; and Mrs. Fiona McCracken, the herring girl from the Outer Hebrides. This summer he will play Alfred Doolittle in My Fair Lady for The Lamplighters.
