RED HOOK LIVE is a marathon showcase of Red Hook's finest performing artists. A sampling of the breadth of talent that resides in this neighborhood, RHL is as diverse and broad as the community itself. With a full day of performances from celebrated playwrights to underground hip-hop choreographers, an activist theater company to contemporary dance-makers, there's something for everyone to enjoy!

2:15PM: YOUTH CHOREOGRAPHY: CYC/CORA YOUTH COMPANY
Cora's Youth Company, CYC, was started in 2012 to provide additional opportunities to explore dance to Cora Dance's more advanced students. CYC provides a pre-professional company experience to young dancers and increased visibility in the community. CYC has worked with a wide range of choreographers/teaching artists to set repertory pieces on the dancers such as Regina Rocke, Nadia Tykulsker, Shannon Hummel and Alex Springer and Xan Burley. The work has been presented at the Cora Studio, The Red Hook Waterfront Festival and other venues in New York including schools and public events.
CYC will be performing repertory along with premiering a new work choreographed by Suzanne Beahrs.
4:15: STAGED READINGS FROM ERIC FALLEN, SHANNON HUMMEL AND RYAN JOHNSON
ERIC FALLEN PRESENTS AN UNTITLED WORK IN PROGRESS
Eric Fallen is a playwright and a screenwriter. His plays have been presented in New York at the Lion Theatre, the Peter Jay Sharp Theatre, Soho Playhouse Theatre and HB Studio. Samuel French published a collection of his short plays in 2011 entitled Small Talk. He wrote the original story and co-wrote the screenplay for the short film The Bravest, The Boldest which won the top short screenplay prize at both the 2012 Rhode Island International Film Festival and the 2013 Nantucket Film Festival, and is an Official Selection for Sundance 2014's Short Film Category. Eric's short screenplay Perfect Weather is currently in pre-production with Pactum Films. Eric also teaches in the English Department at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City.
RYAN F JOHNSON PRESENTS "WE LOST OURSELVES"
This is a small excerpt from the one man show "We Lost Ourselves" written by Ryan F Johnson. This piece is based on his real life situations as an African American male in today's society. It is a journey of heartache, fear, anger, and self growth. It is through the use of acting, spoken word, and dance that Ryan has created a show about identity, race, and the most powerful gift the world has...love.
Ryan F Johnson is an all around Renassiance man. He is a classically trained actor, spoken word poet, and educator. A native of Detroit Michigan, he attended Southern Methodist University where he received a BFA in Acting. After graduating, he moved to New York City where he received a certificate in film from The New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts and a MA in Educational Theatre from New York University. A lover of language, you can often see Ryan F with a shakespeare book or journal and favorite pen in hand scribing life's experiencing. You can visit Ryan's website at www.ryanfjohnsontheartist.com.

6:00PM: ONE MAN THEATER PERFORMANCE: REG FLOWERS
Reg presents a one-man show.
Reg Flowers has been a theater professional since and teaching artists since 1987. He's done plays across the US, on and off- Broadway. He's also made several guest starring television appearances. As a director he's worked in NYC and at Freedom Theater in his hometown of Philadelphia. Reg is also a produced playwright, a producer in his own right and is the founder of Falconworks Artist Group a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) that uses popular theater techniques to build capacities for civic engagement and social change.
7:30PM: DANCE: WORKS AND WORKS IN PROCESS: REBEKAH WINDMILLER
Rebekah Windmiller takes a look back and a look ahead by showing dances from years past and works just budding. Solo for Unprepared Dancer (1995) is a nod to John Cage and includes sound devices attached to the wrists and ankles creating beeps and buzzes, all rigged to a mercury switch. In Give or Take, 36 steps accumulate and de-accumulate between 2 dancers with an open time frame allowing for surprises. In a new work, Windmiller explores her practice of improvisation by dancing with a film of the NYC waterfront created by Red Hook filmmaker, John Buchanan. The program concludes with an audience Q&A with the performers.
Rebekah Windmiller is a dancer and choreographer who has been making work since 1984. Her dances have been presented throughout NYC, Ohio and in Minnesota. She has received awards and support from the American College Dance Festival, the Joyce-Mertz Gilmore Foundation, The Field, and Spoke-the-Hub. In addition to stage performance, Ms. Windmiller has created works in parks, on piers and in her Red Hook bedroom. She dances with Sally Silvers on occasion among others. Her most recent solo, Beholden, was presented at the Cora Studio-Theater in 2013.
9:30PM: HIP-HOP AND REGGAE SHOWCASE: KANDICE AND KAREN ROSS; SOLOMON GOODWIN/MVP
Enjoy separate pieces from Solomon Goodwin/MVP, Kandice and Karen Ross as they display their energetic and captivating movements.
Kandice and Karen Ross grew up in Red Hook and have been dancing their entire lives. Whether it be practicing outside in the neighborhood, in the hallway, or at the PAL Miccio on West 9th St., they never let their lack of space deter them from doing what they love. Both sisters share a love for dance that's reflected in their chemistry with one another and within their fun routines. They have performed within the largest Caribbean shows in CUNY and SUNY and performed live with upcoming hip hop artists and numerous shows within the community.
Solomon Goodwin lives in Brooklyn NY and was raised in Red Hook where he started learning to dance by swapping movement with friends in the hallways, streets and courtyards around the neighborhood. By the age of 11, he had started his own hip-hop group and was battling throughout the borough. He has regularly performed dances for Dance Theatre Etc. Red Hook Initiative, and Dancing in the Streets where he has also been a hip-hop teacher. Beyond that, his favorite appearances include performing on the TV show "106 and Park" and at The Apollo Theater. He teaches weekly hip-hop classes at Cora Dance for students age 9 through adult. He is also proud to be performing with the professional company Shannon Hummel/Cora Dance in their upcoming work, COMMON DANCES, which will appear in sites throughout Red Hook. Solomon currently attends Long Island University as a sophomore where he is studying Media Arts.

Through its company, school and studio, Cora creates exceptional dance experiences while addressing the impediments that restrict individuals from accessing the art form. Cora fosters common ground among diverse people, allowing all involvedartists, students, audiences and community membersto connect more deeply with one another through the arts. The Cora Studio- Red Hook's first black-box studio performance space that is home to the professional company Shannon Hummel/Cora Dance and its education arm, Cora School for Dance- creates opportunities for individuals to interact, learn and grow through dance while addressing the impediments that limit access to the arts for everyone. All programs and performances at Cora are pay-what-you-can; no one is ever turned away based on what she/he can afford. Through the company, school, and studio, Cora fosters trust and common ground between diverse people, allowing those involved- artists, students, audiences and community members- to learn from one another openly and connect more deeply.
