The Honey Bees & Their Gardens
Are you interested in beekeeping? Are you interested in chemical free gardening? Then this 3-day workshop is for you! During this 12-hour class you will learn how to start becoming a beekeeper. Get an up-close look at the honey bee. Learn about the herbicides and insecticides that we use on a daily basis, along with the good, bad and ugly of using synthetic sprays. Learn how a plant produces nectar and pollen--items that are important to the Honey Bee and the plant. Learn how a garden can be laid out to be most effect in a small area and what flowers are good for humans as well as Honey Bees. Jim Miller has been a beekeeper for about 20 years. He has been on three Farmer to Farmer trips, two to the Republic of George and the third to Egypt. Where Jim worked with the local beekeepers in solving their problems. Jim has been teaching classes for the last 15 years. The Millers Homestead LLC is Certified as Naturally Grown Apiaries. No chemicals in the hive or on the land they are setting on. Jim is also a Certified Master Beekeeper. The only one in Eastern Washington. Come join Jim and learn the basics of Urban Beekeeping. Gina Jackson, AA is well known as a landscape gardener in the Cheney Area. She has extensive knowledge of flowering plants, how they work, and which ones are the most beneficial to the honey bee. Gina has designed and helped with the implementation of flowers at Millers Homestead LLC.
