Wheel Building Class
If you're ready to take your wrenching skills to the next level, there's no better way than by learning to build your own wheels! The Bike Kitchen is featuring a two-session class in which students will build one wheel from scratch.
This two-session class will take place at the Bike Kitchen on Sunday January 18 and Sunday January 25 from 3pm - 6pm. Class is $50-80 sliding scale, but is only open to BK members. Non-members must purchase a 1-year membership in order to take the class.
PLEASE NOTE You must get prior approval to attend this class if you intend to reuse your RIM or HUB.
Hubs, if previously laced, MUST BE ADJUSTED PROPERLY.
It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that rims be new (instructor approval required), and ABSOLUTELY REQUIRED that spokes and nipples are new. YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO ATTEND THE CLASS WITHOUT NEW SPOKES AND NIPPLES.
Before buying spokes, PLEASE email the instructor. Part of the preparation for building wheels is measuring and calculating the appropriate spoke length. Additionally, most shops in san francisco charge $5 to calculate spoke length.
If you are in need of hardware for your build, PLEASE CONTACT THE INSTRUCTOR IMMEDIATELY at the public contact email address. We can make arrangements with bike builders in the bay area to acquire wheel parts at or near wholesale cost.
