The Tucson Kitchen Musicians Association (TKMA) is proud to present high-energy Latin bands Santa Pachita and Vox Urbana on February 11 at El Casino Ballroom in Tucson, Arizona. Two beloved Tucson dance bands known for their original music infused with Salsa and Cumbia traditions, Vox Urbana starts the night off at 7:00 PM, followed by Santa Pachita at 8:30 PM. Tickets are $15 (advance) / $20 (at the door) plus ticket processing fees. Proceeds benefit the 2022 Tucson Folk Festival, one of the oldest free Americana and Folk Music festivals in the country.
Opening the night at 7 PM, Vox Urbana is a nine-piece band that combines Latin-based sounds with stories and experiences that occur in the Arizona/Sonora border region. The bi-national band is based in Tucson, Arizona and has been creatively narrating stories of the border community since 2010. The band's original repertoire breaks any language barrier through its 100% danceable grooves. As a collective composing body, Vox Urbana continuously aims to learn and expand its musical influences. Among the musical styles found in the bands sound and identity is a mestizaje of ethnic sounds such as Huapango (Southern Mexico), Cumbia (Colombia), Chicha (Peru), Cha-cha-cha (Cuba), along with a variety of electronic textures such as synthesizers and voice effects. Such a musical recipe guarantees a high-energy performance, as well as a culturally fruitful experience to younger and older audiences in the U.S./Mexico region.
Taking the stage at 8:30 PM are local Latin-Rock-Fusion favorites, Santa Pachita, a Tucson band that has been playing together since 2012. Guitarist, Miguel Reyes, and bass player, Victor Cruz, started the band after working together on other musical projects. They brought in talented musicians that have a variety of different musical backgrounds. The result is a danceable fusion of ska, cumbia, and rumba-salsa. The congas, flute, and trumpet add depth to the energetic music that is influenced by bands like Manu Chao.
This is going to be an incredible night of original music, featuring two uniquely Tucson takes on Latin music. Attendees should come ready to dance and celebrate!
