Why Are We Such a Divided Nation? -- Ed Cabrera
Tuesday, January 11 12pm - 2pm SLO Senior Center, San Luis Obispo
Why do Americans increasingly believe that those who hold different political ideas than they do are not only misguided, but are also bad people whose views are so dangerously wrong-headed and crazy as to be all but incomprehensible?
What has created a culture of contempt in American politics and public life?
The destructive dynamic of recent years is not the result of one or two factors that can be easily reversed. Rather, it is the result of many trends that have played out over the past half-century. In this intense session, Ed Cabrera will share with attendees his views about how Washington became so broken. Amongst topics to be showcased will be: the changes taking place in the urban/rural divide; ethnic and racial diversity; the media: and donor politics.
Ed Cabrera taught at Atascadero High School and, before that, at Perris High School (in Southern California). He also coached numerous sports and advised even more clubs in his career spanning 4 decades. His previous classes covered a diverse set of topics such as The Electoral College, Hong Kong, 1919 and Immigration. Ed is also our I.T specialist and a member of our board of directors.
