All I want for Christmas is... a HOME!
For many years, housing providers had the "one-size-fits-all" policy that demied housing to anynone with a criminal record, regardless of the violation. As of April 4, 2016, the Administration upon reviewing research and statistics, concluded that having such policy has a disproportionate effect of African American and Hispanic men. There is also a negative effect if the individual has a mental disability.
Join us for a day of information and conversation featuring Sara Scarborough, founder and creator of the REAL LIFE organization, whose mission is...
"REAL LIFE serves individuals who have been impacted by incarceration, homelessness, or substance use disorder by giving them an opportunity to overcome their personal and community barriers that hinder their pathway to a Thriving Life."
Sara will bring a panel of housing providers, a panel of employers and a panel of past and present participants of the program.
Our second featured guest is Helen Hardiman, Assistant Attorney General and Policy Advisor Office of the Attorney General. Helen will give us information about the policy and how it applies to the Fair Housing Law and all about the program here in Virginia.
