Linda Baer: As a performing singer-songwriter I create songs with narratives and musical leanings that are steeped in the rich traditions of Appalachian folk song, Hebrew chant, Delta Blues, British balladry, Yiddish laments, and more. As a composer, I go "where the song takes me;" that means that I sometimes compose from outside my comfort zone. For example, I have written songs with Cajun, Flamenco, and Calypso shadings. As a result of these explorations I have a wide variety of music to offer the listener, with the common thread of catchy melodies and poetic lyrics that tell of the journey of the human spirit. I play guitar, piano, clawhammer banjo, Celtic harp, and lap dulcimer to accompany my singing.
I have composed songs in English, Hebrew, French, Spanish, and Yiddish. While I write primarily in the folk music vein, I have also composed art songs for voice and piano or guitar accompaniment. I recorded some of my original folk-songs, art songs, and blues on my first release, "Stones of Auguste" (1993). The title cut imagines the sculptures of Auguste Rodin coming to life. I am currently recording a CD of original Jewish music that includes new settings for the liturgy and songs that offer new interpretations biblical narratives.
I have performed in concert as a headliner at coffeehouses, folk festivals, folk song societies, synagogues, and organizations throughout the Mid-Atlantic for 30+ years. My music has been featured on Public radio stations, local network television, and Maryland Public television. In addition to my work as a singer-songwriter I have developed participatory concert-lectures of American Roots music (Blues, Appalachian, folksongs, etc.), Anglo-Irish balladry, Yiddish, and Ladino traditions. Previously I served as director of the Mt Vernon Place Coffeehouse in Baltimore, Maryland, the Program Chair for the Baltimore Folk Music Society, and was a co-founder of the Baltimore Folk Festival.
Lara Herscovitch is a singer-songwriter-poet-performer-author gem. As described in The Boston Globe, she brings a luminous voice and a buoyant stage presence big-hearted lyrics embrace the sum of life Herscovitchs music blows on the embers of a lagging spirit or a dormant creative life. Lara leads with authenticity, integrity, humor and heart. Sound Waves Magazine described her music as expertly written prose songwriting at its best good for your ears AND your soul. Acoustic Live in New York City added, She possesses not only a huge reservoir of musical talent and a voice with a bell-like clarity, but a keen sense of global concern and a fierce intellect... It might seem too good to be true, but true it is.
